How it all started...
The Waldroup Avenue Church of God was established in the mid-1970's by a small group of people that loved Jesus and wanted to see their community impacted by His grace. The church grew through prayer, outreach and the power of the Holy Spirit to become a home where people can experience the presence of God and grow deeper in their relationship with Him.
Expanding the vision...
In the mid-2000's, the church's name was changed to The Sanctuary Church. Pastor Bob and Ami Lee Powell moved to Douglas in 2012 to serve as lead pastor, and the legacy and passion of the church to spread the love of Jesus to the community around us was accelerated to a new level.
Where we are headed...
The Sanctuary Church remains committed to bringing the gospel of Jesus to everyone we can. While our immediate focus of ministry is to the people of Douglas, Georgia and the surrounding area, we are intent on seeing the name of Jesus made known among the nations. Whether through live-streamed services, mission opportunities, or raising the next generation of world changers....we won't stop until everyone has heard!
